FIGURE 10a

Figure 10a
, above, shows landings and departures occurring on Runway 15.
Similar to the Runway 33 configuration, Runway 15 use is most common during the Fall, Winter and Spring when changing weather and wind patterns occur most frequently.  Usually associated with this runway configuration are strong southerly or southeasterly winds.  Normally, Runway 15 use is limited to times when good visual flight conditions exist and higher ceilings allow pilots to make visual approaches and landings.

Neighborhoods affected by this configuration would be:

Arrivals to Runway 15

Aircraft approach the airport from several directions to join the arrival stream as can bee seen in Figure 10a above.  All inbound aircraft proceed to the 1st Point area, then over Monomoy for entry into the traffic pattern for Runway 15, crossing Mid-Island, straight-in to land on Runway 15.

Departures from Runway 15

Instrument departures
, under FAA positive control, are directed either northbound or westbound depending on the aircraft destination.  Other departing aircraft will depart either over Madaquecham following the off-shore noise abatement route around Sconset, or via a left turn directly to Folger's Marsh  and 3rd Point.  Westbound aircraft will depart over Madaquecham to an over-water departure route.

FIGURE 10b

Figure 10b, below, shows landings and departures occurring on Runway 15 during the hours of 6 a.m. - 8 a.m.  Special Voluntary Early Morning Noise Abatement Procedures are in effect when good visibility prevails.  These procedures were established in 2000 in an effort to maximize over-water arrivals and departures when light air traffic and wind/weather patterns permit.  Aircraft, in this case, can be seen departing off-shore from Runway 15.
